Common Gels and Aerogels
Common gels in our lives include jelly and tofu. Under normal circumstances, their structure will collapse after drying, and their appearance will shrink and become shriveled. However, aerogel is a material that still maintains its original solid structure after the gel is dried.
The birth of aerogel originated from a bet between American chemists Samuel Kistler and Charles Learned: to see who could replace the liquid in the jelly-like gel with gas (drying) without changing its solid structure.
Aerogel refers to a material with a nanoporous network structure. It is usually derived from wet gel. When the liquid in the wet gel is replaced by gas (or vacuum), and its solid porous framework remains uncollapsed, this structure is called aerogel. (It is currently the solid material with the best thermal insulation performance in the world.)
Aerogel Characteristics
Ultra-light: Density is 3.55Kg/m³, only 2.75 times the density of air.
Super-hydrophobic: Hydrophobic rate ≥ 90%, blocking liquid water while allowing water vapor to pass through.
Extremely high specific surface area: 600—1000㎡/g.
High porosity: Porosity ≥ 90%.
Ultra-low thermal conductivity: Thermal conductivity lower than that of air: ≤ 0.016W/(m·K).
Aerogel Properties
Optical properties: The nano and porous structure is conducive to infrared absorption. Aerogel has strong absorption in the far-infrared region and can be used for far-infrared stealth.
Thermal properties: Simultaneously inhibits heat conduction, heat convection and heat radiation.
Acoustic properties: When sound waves pass through aerogel, the sound is continuously dissipated, thus forming a sound wave blocking effect.
Adsorption properties: Aerogel has a huge internal surface area and a uniform and ordered pore structure, making it easy to adsorb other molecules and atoms.

Existing buildings: The thermal insulation effect of 2mm aerogel coating is equivalent to that of 60-70mm rock wool board.

Main components: High-performance resin emulsion, with SiO₂ aerogel, hollow glass microspheres, etc. as thermal insulation materials, water as solvent, and it is a high-performance thermal insulation material synthesized through special processes.

Recommended dosage: 0.8-1.5kg/㎡.
